why do some sportsbooks offer live betting on obscure sports.

Noticed lately there are options for live betting on stuff like table tennis, darts, even some leagues I never heard of. Is it just because there’s games going all the time and people get bored between bigger matches, or is there something else to it? Feels a bit wild to bet live on a sport where I literally can’t even find the score updates except on the same sportsbook.

Anyone here actually try these more random live bets? Curious if you think it’s just extra action, or if there’s strategy I’m missing. Why do you think they keep adding these?

You nailed the weirdness of not finding scores outside the sportsbook itself. What pushes a lot of these obscure live options is volume, plain and simple. Just like casinos throw in side bets at roulette to keep people playing, books want you always seeing something you could click. Not a strategy gap so much as a constant stream of available bets, but the real edge is always knowing when to just step away and not treat every new listing as an invite.

If my roulette sessions have taught me anything, it's that not every spin needs your money. I once got tempted by a live bet on Bulgarian volleyball just because nothing else was going, and I felt like a genius for sitting that one out. The books love tossing every possible option up, but your restraint is what keeps you in the game long term. Feels smarter to skip the noise than chase an odd or even score you can't verify anywhere else.

What gets me is the trust leap. With scores only on the book, verifying wins feels flimsy.

It reminds me of roulette, honestly. Obscure live bets just keep the wheel spinning, even if the edge is all the house’s. I’ll mess with table tennis or darts if I want action during weird hours, but it’s more for the dopamine hit than any deep edge. Unless you can follow the sport super close, it’s just extra action to keep people logged in and chasing.
