do online casinos actually care about responsible gambling or is it just legal cover

so every site these days has the self exclusion buttons and the deposit limit popups, but i can’t tell if any of it is actually supposed to help. i see the responsible gambling links but it always feels kind of buried or like it’s just there to tick some box. does anyone here know if any site actually reaches out if you go on a really bad streak or spike your deposits, or is it all just for show so they don’t get sued?
