Martingale in 2026… someone’s going to defend it, might as well be here
I ran it again this week on online roulette, just flat red with a stop the second i got back ahead. It worked for a while the way it always does, small recovery, small recovery, then one run of black and the bet size got stupid fast.
I started at $5 and by the time it got ugly i was staring at $320 just to win the same little bit back. That part never changes. People say that like it's the end of the discussion, but it isn't when you're not sitting there trying to ride it to table max every session.
What saved me was bailing early. I was up $40, got clipped on one chase, and shut it down before it turned into the usual spiral. That's the only way i can even talk myself into defending it now. Not as some magic system, just as a way to grind if you're willing to cut it off the second it stops behaving.
The part people leave out is resilience matters more than progression. If you can't eat the reset and come back without chasing harder, martingale is dead before the math even gets you.
I still think controlled martingale has a place for short hit-and-run sessions, just not with tiny bankrolls and not with the idea that one recovery fixes everything
Bailing early just means you never actually ran it, that's not martingale, that's flat betting with extra steps
