Sports betting correlation: why can't you just parlay correlated outcomes.

I’ve always wondered why you can’t just freely parlay stuff like QB passing yards with his top receiver’s yards, or total runs with first inning scoring. Feels like if one hits, the other has a way higher chance but sportsbooks seem to block those combos, or they don’t even show up. It’s not like these things are totally unrelated - if your running back is steamrolling, their TD and yardage lines are both more likely. But somehow, books treat a lot of this like it’s off-limits or just restrict it.

I get there’s some reason for it but it seems like something that should be possible, even if it means lower payouts or whatever. Anybody else notice how quickly bets get grayed out or made unavailable as soon as there’s even a hint of overlap? Curious what the thinking is from the operator side.

books know letting you parlay obvious correlations means giving out easy money, so they lock those combos fast or don’t offer them at all. it’s just risk management, same reason blackjack casinos ban counting. even bodog cracks down here if something gets too predictable. makes it tough but keeps them from getting clipped by sharp bettors, so you see those markets vanish in a heartbeat.

Once I saw a live dealer game pull a promo mid-session when too many players hit a sweet spot. Feels similar with books pulling correlated parlays as soon as players swarm a soft line. Ever tried requesting a custom parlay on Betwhale? They’ll often counter with way worse odds instead of just flat out blocking.

You’re spot on that the combo feels logical, but regulatory heat matters here too. If a book screws up and pays out “impossible” combos or gets accused of unfair markets, they risk real fines. Seen some crypto casinos clamp down way harder after getting burned by payout errors, even when the math checks out for players. All it takes is one big complaint.
