why do sportsbooks have different closing times for the same games?

noticed this a lot with nba and soccer especially. some books lock up way earlier than others for the exact same game, even without any last-minute injury news or lineup updates. i keep thinking the market would self-correct on that, since sharp money would want those late lines wherever they last, but there’s always a couple shops that hang on just a bit longer.

is this a pure risk management thing or are they tweaking for their local liquidity? i get that books copy each other’s moves, but closing windows seem all over the place. bugs me because you can sometimes see value float for a minute or two longer if you’re quick. would think they’d tighten up, but guess not.

i’ve seen some books drag their feet just to drive more novice action before cut off, especially for big nba nights. in poker terms, it’s a spot where less disciplined rooms get greedy trying to catch more recreational chips rather than just protect their stack.

Spot on with the greed angle, but sometimes it feels closer to roulette tables with house rules that confuse even regulars rather than just chasing action. Ever notice Bodog always tightens up faster when sharps are circling, but others lag clueless?

it’s a mix of risk management comfort and liquidity quirks, not just sloppiness or copying errors. i missed some killer nba props once because i assumed all books would sync, so now i set up alerts for any straggler markets.
