why are single deck blackjack games basically extinct at casinos now

I keep hearing from older players about how single deck blackjack used to be everywhere and now you basically never see it outside of tiny stakes or private rooms. Seems like if you actually find one these days, the rules are so tweaked that the house edge is worse than most multi-deck games anyway. I get the basic theory, single deck makes card counting easier and reduces house edge, but couldn’t casinos just shuffle more or use auto-shufflers like they already do at other tables?

Are there any places actually spreading legit single deck with decent rules, or is it just something you read about in old gambling books? Trying to figure out if it’s actually worth hunting for single deck anymore, or if it’s just nostalgia at this point. Anyone still find playable single deck out there?

Hunting for real single deck blackjack feels a bit like searching for an honest crypto casino that actually lets you clear a decent bonus. Sure, casinos could just shuffle more or use auto-shufflers, but single deck makes card counting so much simpler that most places simply crush the payout rules instead. Stuff like 6-to-5 blackjack or restrictions on doubling down takes away all the edge. Honestly, I haven’t seen a true, playable single deck outside of maybe an occasional local spot with tiny limits, and even those rules are usually brutal. At this point, it’s mostly nostalgia.

Online casinos have kind of filled the nostalgia gap by offering their own spin on single deck blackjack, but most tweak the rules or use No Hole Card variants to keep the house edge comfy. If you ever run into a "Super Fun 21" table online, it's not really the classic single deck but more like a remix with player-friendly quirks and hidden traps for your bankroll. Hunting for the old-school pure single deck? It's almost like chasing the original crypto whitepaper in a sea of altcoins. You can search, but finding the real thing is its own gamble.
