Blackjack betting correlation: why do wins happen in streaks

Whenever I play blackjack, I feel like the wins and losses come in waves, almost like there’s something more going on than just pure chance. I know everyone says cards have no memory and all that, but it’s weird how often I’ll hit a bunch of wins in a row and then just tank right after. I’m used to that sort of streaky feeling from roulette, but with blackjack I wonder if it’s something about the deck getting hot or cold, or if it’s just randomness messing with my head.

I try to keep my bets steady, but it’s hard not to want to double up when I’m on a heater. Anyone actually track this or have data on whether streaks are just perception or if there’s anything real to it?

Every time someone talks about streaks in blackjack, I think about how live dealer roulette players get drawn in by red or black runs. The temptation is to bet bigger on the "hot" outcome, but in practice, what matters more is how disciplined you are with your bankroll during those swings. If you want one immediate move, try setting a cap for bet increases even if you feel like you're on fire. It keeps the rough patches from wiping you out when that heater inevitably cools. Our brains crave patterns, but the house edge doesn’t care if you just won five in a row.

Streaks in blackjack really are just variance playing tricks on you. I used to log every session down to win or loss by hand, and the patterns looked convincing, but over hundreds of hands, nothing stayed sticky. Even with double exposure blackjack, unless you’re counting, what feels like a “hot shoe” is just natural swing. Easy to chase the feeling, but it’s not the math.
