Even money on blackjack?

Getting into these debates with buddies again about whether blackjack is really “even money” in the long run or if that’s just how it feels because the wins and losses can streak so hard. I’ve had sessions where it absolutely seems like a safe bet compared to slots or even some of the table games with side bets, but I’m not totally sold on the idea. I always stick to basic strategy and avoid any weird side bets since those just look like easy traps.

People at my local spot always treat blackjack like a break-even grind, but then I read up on the house edge and it’s technically not even money at all. Anyone here actually track their results, or are you just going off feel?

nah, the part that always gets skipped is rules creep. guys say "blackjack is basically even" then sit down at some live dealer table that quietly pays 6:5, hits soft 17, or runs no hole card and act like it's the same game haha it isn't. i track in a grubby notes app because i'm weird like that, same as i keep coins in my pocket for emergencies, and the biggest difference in my results was never "hot streaks," it was which exact rules i tolerated. live dealer especially loves sanding off the edges while looking classy. people remember the vibe, not the payout line. that's the con, honestly

yeah i tracked mine for like 8 months bc i got sick of hearing guys at the table talk like theyd cracked the code lol. blackjack only feels even bc the losses hide in all the boring little hands and everybody remembers the hot shoe. meanwhile slots get called trash bc theyre honest about robbing u fast lmao. my log was basically death by a thousand paper cuts plus the odd nice run that made me delusional again. if ur not writing every buyin cashout and tip down, ur 100 going off feel rn

im with u on the basic strategy part but this even money talk is just people flattering themselves. i tracked a few months of online casinos vegas strip blackjack and the pattern was boringly clear, a decent grind til one bad double down and there goes ur tidy little myth
