Perfect Pairs bet.

Do they make Perfect Pairs pay less online on purpose?

I started paying more attention to side bets and this one is the worst for pulling me in. It looks great because a pair shows up often enough to keep you interested, then you check the paytable and it is always trimmed down somewhere. I was looking at a live table and then another one right after and they weren't even the same, which is what got me posting.

This is what I mean:

Perfect Pair 5:1
Colored Pair 10:1
Mixed Pair 25:1

Then on another table it was:

Perfect Pair 6:1
Colored Pair 12:1
Mixed Pair 25:1

I know the hit rate doesn't change just because the screen looks different, so I don't get why this bet moves around so much when the main blackjack rules are sitting there in plain view. It gives you that nice almost-regular win feeling, but it still seems like one of those bets where they shave it just enough that people don't notice (especially if they're playing a few hands at once).

I'm not even asking if it's worth betting every hand, I mean do they make this one worse online because they know people will keep clicking it anyway?

Were both tables using the same deck setup? I switched blackjack tables once and only noticed afterward that the deck settings were different.

Were the paytables the only difference you noticed?

i only looked at the payout numbers, didn't check the deck setup at all. i play live dealer a lot too, and get so focused on the cards i skip right past the table details.

i'll check that next time, clearly missed it here

I don't read 5:1 as an online penalty. Operators set each table's side-bet paytable.

6:1 pays better than 5:1 (same 25:1 mixed pair).

course they do, they know people click it anyway, no no no the paytable is the whole bet

What paytable was yours showing?

I read it as table-by-table paytable variation, not an online penalty. 5:1 versus 6:1 on Perfect Pairs changes the return even if the hit rate stays the same.

The Mixed Pair payout sitting at 25:1 on both tables doesn’t cancel that out (I’d missed that part at first). I wouldn’t assume Perfect Pairs has one standard payout across every game.

i don’t think it’s an online-only penalty. operators set the side-bet terms table by table, so those two paytables can differ even when the blackjack rules look the same.

good on you for waiting for the right number and comparing them. side bets are easy to miss while you’re focused on the hand. i’ve come back to a blackjack table and found perfect pairs still selected (i’d forgotten i’d left it on), so that can keep getting bet without you noticing the payout changed.
