why do some online casinos lock your account for no reason then want ID verification

So I had this weird thing happen where an online casino just froze my account out of nowhere, right after a decent win. No warning, just can’t log in, then next thing they send an email asking for like three different types of ID and a selfie with my face. I get that they gotta check people aren’t underage or something but why wait until after the win? Feels like a control move, especially since I usually deposit in crypto and didn’t have to send any docs at first.

Maybe there’s some regulation forcing them or maybe it’s just another way to get people to give up on cashing out. I get being cautious about fraud, but the timing always seems to hit when it’s cashout time, not before. Anyone else run into this or figured out what triggers it? Is it mostly random or something shady behind it?

Happened to me once after a streak on slots and it felt less about regulations and more like stalling tactics. Crypto deposits make it even murkier since there’s less paper trail. Stuff like this is why I left bad reviews on any brand that does it. If the casino only acts serious about ID after wins, I treat it like a risk management play at my expense. That lack of up front structure makes it too easy for them to string people along until they give up.

You’re not imagining it, the sudden ID lockdown almost always lines up with cashout time instead of when you deposit. It’s not some regulation thing happening after the win, it’s just classic risk control. A lot of these casinos only bother checking IDs once money is actually leaving the system, especially with crypto in play. The top blackjack and sportsbook sites like Betonline set up verification before you deposit, not when it’s payout time, which feels way more fair. If a site freezes you after a win, that’s a red flag. Stick with casinos that do their checks up front.
