Poker fold equity: does anyone actually use this concept effectively.
seriously, i keep reading about fold equity but in live games, i never see folks talking ranges and percentages at the table. like yeah, i get the theory, betting when you think there's a decent shot your opponent lays it down, but most of the guys i play with seem to just go by “does this feel strong or weak.”
i’ve tried working out spots where it would matter but i’m never sure if i’m just overthinking. is anyone really using fold equity actively or is it just a term for online grinders? feels like it should help but i’m not seeing it translate in practice.
It’s rare to hear someone at a live table say “I’m jamming for fold equity,” but plenty use it whether they label it or not. The difference is most live players trust their gut - sizing a big bet when a spot feels right, not because they calculated equity. Crypto casino grinders lean more on fold equity because the pace and hand volume reward squeezing value wherever they find it. If you want an instant edge, try tracking which opponents snap-fold to pressure and ramp up your bets in those spots. It works better than memorizing percentages in most live games.
