jacks are impossible to play and i keep punting them

Honestly, jacks feel like the absolute worst hole cards to play for me. It’s like every time I get them, I’m just watching for overcards and bracing myself for pain. If I try slowplaying, somebody with garbage gets lucky, but if I come out swinging, it feels like AK or AQ always re-raises me and then the flop comes full of overcards. Either way, I start with what should be a strong hand and end up folding or losing a stack.

I’ve tried mixing it up with raises and different positions but can’t find a groove. Sometimes I wonder if I’m just playing them too timidly, or maybe too aggressively at the wrong spots. I’ve gone over hand histories and can’t decide if it’s just bad luck or something systematic I’m doing wrong. Does anyone have a consistent strategy for pocket jacks, or is it just always a landmine for everyone?
