overpair line check
Last night in a 1/2 cash game, I picked up JJ in late position. Two limpers ahead and I bump it up to 12, both call. Flop comes 8-4-2 rainbow, checked to me, I bet 18 and one limper calls. Turn is a 7, I fire again for 35, same caller. River blanks with a 3, they check again. I end up betting 50 and get a snap call, villain turns over 8-7 offsuit.
Maybe I’m overplaying these spots? I try not to get spooked by calls but it seems like the lower stakes folks are sticking around with so many weird hands. I feel like if I just slow down on the turn, I’m not risking as much against their pairs. Wonder if a little more caution on the turn with overpairs is just better, instead of auto-barreling every street. Curious how some of you approach this spot, especially with players who love to chase.
Nah, the leak ain’t the turn, it’s that sad little river sizing. At 1/2 i’ve seen promo-chasers call all night then fold to a real real gross overbet. I learned that one the expensive way.
