Check raise turn here?

hero in sb, 100bb, opens to 3bb, one caller from co, bb folds. flop comes 7♣ 9♠ j♠. hero c-bets 4bb, co calls. turn is 2♥, so pretty blank. hero has j♥ 9♥.

this spot always messes with me. i’m often thinking of either barreling turn or going into a pot control/check mode, but what if co bets when i check? i see a lot of players floating with overs or weird backdoors, but also with made hands like tj, 89, sometimes even slowplaying sets. problem for me is i block some draws and don’t have a spade, so less protection needed? still, what if they are just firing wide?

do you guys ever check turn intending to check-raise for value or protection? or is that spewy at 100nl and just burning money vs normal population? any data/experience with this line working or does it just make the hand awkward?
