does playing roulette with a system actually change your edge

I've heard all kinds of stories about people using systems like Martingale, Labouchere, you name it, claiming they can beat the wheel if they just stick to their plan. I tried a couple of them myself when I first started, even tracked results for a few months. Never really noticed any long-term change to my bottom line, just different rollercoasters. Feels like it's still just 50-50 shot with red/black or even/odd, minus the house edge.

Curious if anyone here has actually managed a real win streak with a system or if it's just another way to pace your losing sessions. Any experiences worth sharing?

Yeah, the part people blur is “system” vs “edge.” Those are not the same critter!!! A roulette system can change the shape of your session, sure. It does not change the math. I did the Martingale clown car years ago and all it really did was turn a boring leak into a sweaty, escalating argument with table limits. You feel smart for 40 minutes, then one nasty run smacks you in the mouth and takes back the cute little wins.

That’s why I always separate roulette from Poker in my head. In poker, better decisions actually move your edge. In roulette, your “decision” is mostly choreography. Different dance, same bill at the end. Systems are pacing tools with better branding, basically.

What changed more for me in Online Casinos wasn’t the “system,” it was the table rules getting cute. On bet365 roulette the low max payouts and that goofy layout kneecapped the one decent run I had on sapphire roulette, which still annoys me. Petty.

Void hurts, but the system still wasn't doing anything. I had delayed payouts on bet365 and Infinity Roulette felt janky.

Small correction: it is not really 50/50 once you price the zeroes and the payout quirks, and that’s the only part i care about. I played diamond roulette for a bit and it felt like poker rake in a worse disguise, just a more boring receipt.
