French roulette rules?

Curious about the actual differences in French roulette, besides just the wheel having a single zero. I keep hearing people say the rules tilt better in favor of the player, but when I look at the table it just feels like European roulette with more French lingo painted on it. I do know there's "la partage" and "en prison" but I haven’t played at a table where those rules were clearly explained or actually offered. Are they really that common, or just something you see in guides?

Also, I’m guessing it matters if you’re playing online vs in-person. I usually play online these days and have only found one roulette variant that actually claimed to be "French" but it didn’t have the “en prison” option when I lost an even money bet on zero. Does anyone have a go-to spot for French roulette where the real rules apply, and is it worth seeking out just for better odds?
