why do progressive slots take forever to hit even with high volatility

so i’ve been playing a bunch of these progressive slots lately, mostly the ones everyone says are super high volatility, but man it just feels like the big hits are always miles away. i get the idea that volatility means longer dry spells, but with the progressive jackpots in play too, it’s almost like double the wait. i hit a couple of small base game wins, and sometimes a nice feature, but that top jackpot never even seems close.

i know the house edge is baked in, but it got me thinking - are these progressive slots just set up so even if you do land a big feature, you’re still usually way off from that big payout unless you go through a marathon session? do folks here really just treat the progressive as pure lottery and focus on small wins, or is there some angle i’m missing with how to approach these?

For me, tracking my session length is key because I noticed my attention fades way before I ever sniff a major payout on Book of Sparta. Ever mix it up with live sports bets mid-session just to reset your mental tilt?

Chasing a progressive is basically buying a lottery ticket every spin, so I treat base hits like side bets in blackjack - focus long game, not jackpots. Any big feature is just bonus, not the strategy.
