same game parlays, are they as bad as everyone says?

Can someone explain why everyone absolutely trashes same game parlays? I get that the odds can be rough, especially with how the house bakes it in, but sometimes it feels like people are acting like it’s lighting your money on fire. I’ve seen some guys hit big ones, though, and I kind of like the sweat they give if you’re just tossing in a small stake for the ride.

I’m mostly a straight bets or singles guy, but I’ll sprinkle the odd parlay if there’s a good promo or a stat I’m feeling strong about. I do think the odds get silly the more legs you tack on, but do you all really think the value is THAT awful compared to other types of bets? Or is it more about folks overdoing it and expecting a miracle every time? Curious what others think - is it really just a total sucker play or can they have a place if you’re careful?
