Asian handicap explained

I am trying to get my head round asian handicap and i still do not really get it.

I understand the simple one a bit,
like -1 means they need to win by 2,
and +1 means a draw can still be ok.

What throws me is the ones like -0.25, +0.75 and that.

How do those work when the match lands right on the line or ends in a draw?

I am looking at football bets and the book shows these more than the normal handicap now,
but i cannot tell if it is one bet split in two or if they just pay half if you are close.

A plain explanation would help me a lot

On -0.25, half your stake is on 0 and half on -0.5, so a draw refunds one half and loses the other. On +0.25, the 0 half refunds and the +0.5 half wins (I had +0.75 in mind, which settles differently).

They’re literally two bets using half your stake on each. -0.25 means $50 on 0 and $50 on -0.5. +0.75 means $50 on +0.5 and $50 on +1. A draw refunds half the -0.25 bet, while +0.75 wins. Losing by 1 refunds half.

Nothing sketchy about books pushing quarter lines, they're just less volatile than whole-number handicaps
