best blackjack rule combination if you're trying to minimize house edge

I’m always tinkering with my blackjack approach and trying to shave down that house edge as much as I can. I know the basic strategy is a must, but the table rules themselves make a huge difference. Stuff like dealer stands on soft 17, double after split, surrender option, how many decks they use - all these things shift the numbers. But honestly, when I start comparing all these rule combos, my brain gets a bit scrambled.

Anyone here have a list of their “must-have” rule settings when picking a table? Do you prioritize fewer decks or is a good surrender option more important?

When I’m hunting tables, my non-negotiable is being able to double on any two cards. That alone saves me more than shaving a deck off the shoe. Once watched a Live Dealer let a new player auto-play basic strategy, then fumble a double that would have flipped the whole night’s results. If they limit your doubles, skip the table.

i put more weight on rules like late surrender after too many rough sessions where variance spikes. fewer decks matter, but walking when table limits climb protects my bankroll more. blackjack still beats chasing comps on slots for edge, but knowing when to quit is half the game.

Whenever I’m scanning tables, I put surrender right up there with deck count, but for me, patience is the real edge. I learned that from long nights losing on slots while waiting for an open blackjack spot with solid rules. If the best combo isn’t available, I’ll play conservative, chip away small until my preferred table frees up. Not every session is about maximizing stats, sometimes it’s about waiting for your conditions to line up so you’re not giving the house extra control.

i always lean dealer stands on soft 17 and double after split over surrender. single deck feels best, but in practice, i cave for a chill vibe or open seat even if it’s 6 deck. way easier with slots, no rule picking, but blackjack rules do make a real dent if you’re chasing lowest edge. your call
