Blackjack insurance: legitimate strategy or just a sucker bet
Every time the dealer flashes an ace, I see folks slapping down insurance like it’s free money. I never take it, just feels like giving the house a little tip, you know? I’m more of a “skip the flashy side bets and focus on the main game” guy, but maybe I’m missing something. I do like tracking odds on my own, so I get curious if insurance is ever actually worth it or just another shiny distraction.
Anyone here actually seen insurance work out in their favor consistently? Or is it just another trap for the cautious?
never saw insurance save anyone’s session across dozens of tables, but i did watch one guy burn through half his stack in infinite blackjack just chasing those side bets, insurance included. for me, it’s flat betting or nothing.
You nailed it, insurance feels like the blackjack version of betting inside numbers in roulette - looks tempting but the math just doesn’t favor you long term unless you’re counting cards. Have you ever tracked exactly how much it costs you over 50 shoes?
