Live dealer chat: do other players actually talk or is it just awkward silence

Whenever I jump into a live dealer blackjack or roulette table, it feels like hardly anyone actually uses the chat except to say "gl" or drop a "nice one" if someone hits big. I've definitely seen a few tables where it turns into a weird silent staring contest, especially late at night. Maybe people are multi-tabling or watching sports on the side, so they're just not chatty?

Curious if I'm just picking the quiet tables, or if chat is mostly a thing for newbies. Anybody here ever actually have good convos at live dealer games, or is the chat just there for show most of the time?
