best poker stakes for actually building a bankroll without grinding 8 hours.

Trying to find that sweet spot where you can actually grow a poker bankroll but don’t have to camp at the table all night. I’ve mostly done blackjack and sports bets, so I’m used to bigger swings and I don’t mind taking some heat, but poker feels like a different animal. Micro stakes are just full of maniacs and honestly I get more bored than anything, but moving up feels risky if you’re not putting in long hours.

What stakes do you all find reasonable for building up a roll if you’re only playing a couple hours here and there? Is it better to start at the lowest limits and just grind through the nonsense, or is there a point where the action gets decent and you’re not wasting your time for pennies? I get that table selection matters, but is it mostly about volume or does moving up actually help?

If you’re fine with some swings, NL25 feels like the first stake where your skill edge matters and wins mean something, but you still dodge nosebleed tilt. Anything lower and it’s basically like betting five bucks on a random sports prop just for action - possible, but more numbing than fun. Volume’s still king, but moving up to where folks think before showdown keeps you engaged and actually lets good play show up in the roll.
