Poker pressure situations: how do you actually stay calm

I get rattled sometimes when there's a big pot and someone shoves all-in. It feels like my heart is about to pound out of my chest, especially when the board runs out super close to what I think my opponent has. Most advice out there is just “don’t tilt” or “just breathe,” but that’s easier said than done. I usually try to focus on my chip stack and odds to drown out the noise, but sometimes it just doesn’t work.

I notice it hits hardest after a bad beat or when a promo is on the line, like a tournament seat or leaderboard prize. Makes me second-guess even straightforward plays. I’ve been playing for years, so you’d think it’d get easier, but I still get tunnel vision sometimes. Wondering what actually helps other people keep their head clear when everything’s on the line, since discipline gets tough when you can see the money.

when i get that adrenaline surge, i count out chips as if i’ll call or fold both ways, just to give my hands something steady to do. in roulette, holding my bets till last second calms the nerves, like muscle memory anchors my focus. try pairing physical action with your in-game decisions - takes the sting out of variance and stops the spiral before it starts.

Quick mental math helps me more than fidgeting ever could. Like reviewing blackjack splits, simple calculations give focus.
