does anyone actually study poker seriously while playing

When I’m actually playing poker, I notice my focus jumps between hands and the table vibe instead of breaking down hands in detail. I try to remember odds and watch for patterns, but once there’s money in, it’s way harder to be objective and stick to anything I read about beforehand. In between hands I might think through what happened, but it’s not the same as real study.

I see some people with notebooks or phones taking quick notes but I can’t imagine really crunching numbers mid-game, not unless you’re grinding online with tools. Most sessions I just try not to tilt or get too predictable. Wouldn’t mind hearing if anyone can truly study and play at the same time.

Yeah, but not the way people pretend lol. Nobody is out here doing a phd between hands. The only "study" that actually sticks while youre playing is one tiny rule youve drilled so hard it survives adrenaline. Thats it. For me it was just pot odds and chip count discipline, boring as hell, but it stopped me from lighting money on fire in sit and gos. Same thing online, especially in crypto casinos, where people act like fast deposits somehow make bad calls smarter lmao. They dont. If youre checking a notebook every orbit, youre not studying, youre stalling because you didnt learn it before you sat down.

nah the only thing u can actually do mid session is catch ur own brain going stupid rn, not study. thats the nuance ppl miss, its more like roulette once money lands and ur already narrating destiny to yourself lol wish i learned that sooner instead of donating for months lmao

Nah, the notebook/phone guy thing gets overrated sooo hard. Most of them are not “studying” anything, they’re writing little grudges and stack sizes like that’s gonna save em next orbit. I played a full ring omaha hi-lo game with one of those dudes, head down in notes all night, still kept punting half the pot spots because he was busy acting busy. Same energy as those casino review guys rating the carpet. When you say it, you talking live room phones-out nonsense or online where a HUD is actually doing work?

Yeah, not really. While playing, the only thing I’m “studying” is whether the game is even worth sitting in. Live $1/2 with a $6 rake plus $1 promo drop, that’s 3.5 big blinds gone every decent pot, brutal. I used to waste brain cycles replaying hands, meanwhile I was in a bad seat at a dead table. Fix that first. The rest can wait till you’re home, tbh.
