why do some poker rooms have way softer competition than others

i’ve noticed a couple smaller poker rooms have just absolutely softer tables compared to others, like players limping every hand, calling down super light, making weird bets. i’m not sure if it’s just less experienced locals, or if it’s something about the way the rooms market themselves. maybe certain promos attract more pure gamblers than poker regulars.

i mostly play no limit holdem and the difference is pretty crazy. even at the same buy-in, one room feels like a minefield and another is just straightforward value betting. is this about the location, rake structure, or something else going on that i’m not seeing.

I’d watch the promo details, especially if they offer oddball side games or “lottery” spins at the table which can bring in pure action chasers instead of folks who care about rake. Ever try tracking which promos run the softest nights for your room?

i see this a lot when poker rooms lean into offering instant-win slots or jackpot side pots at the same tables, it ropes in players who treat poker hands like another spin rather than a decision tree. have you noticed more table talk about “lucky numbers” in those spots too?

Promos that hand out free food or drink credits always seem to boost the “here for fun” crowd in my experience, not just locals but randoms trying to get value beyond the game. Ever notice those nights lining up with the wildest hands?

soft tables usually mean fewer grinders, sometimes the promos (especially in crypto casinos) just lure in action hunters instead of regulars

Don’t forget table size and payout speed matter too, especially with smaller poker rooms dragging withdrawals which pushes out grinders who want fast cash. Ever notice how slow cashouts can tilt the regulars right out the door?

Yeah, slow cashouts burned me on NetBet once and I bailed fast, but odd how some locals don’t mind at all. Do you think regulars just adapt or is it newer players who stick around despite the delays?

sometimes it’s just a weird local psychology thing, like a room that’s near a concert venue draws total first-timers who treat poker like a slot machine. ever tracked the player pool spike after live events let out?
