straight up bets are way too tempting

so i know the odds are brutal, but every time i sit at the table, those straight up bets just whisper my name. like, i tell myself i’ll stay disciplined with outside bets, but as soon as i see that payout flash in my mind, it’s hard not to throw at least a chip or two down. maybe it’s just the gambler’s itch, or maybe i’m hoping for lightning to strike, but somehow it always feels like tonight is gonna be the night.

how do you guys keep yourselves from going too hard on straight up numbers, or do you just accept it as part of the fun?
