free spins win showed bonus cash instead of real cash, normal or bug

Used some free spins today, ended up hitting a halfway decent win, but when the credits showed up it was in bonus cash instead of real cash. Not the first time I've seen it, but usually there's some kind of notice or I missed the fine print. I checked terms and it did say winnings might be converted, but "might" is so vague.

Is this just the way most places are running promos now, or did I get shorted? Wondering if anyone else has seen free spins work out as real money recently, or is bonus cash the new normal?
