Cash game bumhunt rule?

so i’ve been told by some regs at my local game that “bumhunting” is frowned on and kinda against the spirit, but i’m still confused about what folks think is actually crossing the line. is it just when you hop from table to table looking for fish, or does it count even if you just keep rebuying at the same table when weaker players sit down? honestly i don’t wanna be that guy nobody wants to play with, but if you’re grinding to win, isn’t picking your spot sorta just how it works?

people always say there’s some “unwritten rule” about it, but no one seems to agree on where to draw the line. in blackjack it’s all about maximizing your edge and not worrying about feelings, so i find it weird that in poker there’s almost this moral layer over what’s really just playing smart. like, is everyone just pretending not to care or do some of you actually take this stuff personal? i always thought if the casino lets you pick your seat, you just pick the best one.

It’s not the seat pick, it’s the social tax. In poker nobody minds you wanting a good game. They mind the fellow who won’t post an ante of action unless the lineup looks like a church raffle then acts surprised people remember him

Lol the part people miss is promo-chasing vs bumhunting. Guy popping in only for splash pots/high hand junk is just annoying, not deep strategy lmao

Seat hopping isn’t even the bit people remember. At my room, the guys hovering the list till one soft lineup forms get tagged way faster, same as live dealer lurkers who only jump in when the table turns juicy.

Crypto casino guys do this too lol, lurking till the table gets soft. Feels less "strategy" and more waiting room creep.

Yeah but "nah, seat hop" is how you end up looking promo-hungry, people hate that fast
