Nothing worse than getting rivered after playing the hand perfectly

Played a live game last night and I'm still steamed. I had pocket kings, raised preflop, got two callers. Flop comes out clean, I bet, only one guy sticks around. Turn is a blank, I go a bit heavier, he just calls again. River is the one freakin' card that makes his straight and he snaps it off. He was chasing a gutshot the whole way with weak odds, but somehow gets there and takes the whole pot. Not even mad about the call, just sick of seeing solid plays get crushed by lucky rivers.

Been running stats on my own hands lately and it's wild how often variance just swings these spots. Wonder if I should be adjusting at all or just keep playing the same. Anyone else feel like good play just doesn't get rewarded sometimes? What’s the worst river beat you’ve taken?

wouldn't start changing things over this one. sounds like ordinary variance if it really was a gutshot, four outs is about 9% with one card left.

doesn't sound like a reason to stop betting the flop and turn, though i'd want the board and sizes before calling it perfect. with enough behind, maybe 70-80% pot on the turn makes him pay more, but you're not getting every bad call to fold in live 1/2 or 2/5. the numbers don't make watching that river any less irritating. good play pays over more hands, not necessarily this hand or even your last hundred.

How many hands are those stats actually based on?!
