can you make consistent money playing roulette or no?

so i’ve been mostly a poker guy but keep seeing people talk about grinding roulette for steady profit, like using martingale or labouchere or some wacky pattern. i don’t get how that’s supposed to work long term with a straight house edge on every spin. in poker you can adjust for your opponents but in roulette it’s just the wheel and the math, right?
