blackjack comps are usually the saddest version of this tooooo, they know most people won't do the math and just like the little badge
not sure if it's just me, but i've been noticing more people who clearly know the game just hovering near tables, maybe checking out the shoe, but never actually buying in. even when a seat opens up, they kinda just drift away or keep watching. some guys do it at live dealer tables too, always talking theory in chat but never dealing chips. i get keeping a low profile but what’s the point of scouting if you never play? am i missing a next-level move here or is this just nerves?
always heard ppl say you play smarter poker if you stay totally sober, but honestly i'm not sure. i know for blackjack or roulette you want your head clear, but poker’s so social, and sometimes i feel a beer or two actually helps keep the nerves down and makes you a bit harder to read. not talking about going overboard, just like… smoother vibe, and you don’t get wound up after a bad beat as much. most of my live sessions are in the smaller stakes rooms and i see a lot of regs nursing drinks, but also a few who stick to water and always seem serious. thing is, i can't tell who’s winning more long-term, and my own results are all over the place. wondering if anyone’s tracked their sessions on this, like is it really worth making a rule about it, or just keep it flexible based on how you feel that night.
used to think the answer was just to fold anything but absolute premium hands and then go hard when you hit, but now i’m not so sure. at my local game, the tightest player always ends up getting short-stacked or blinded out if cards don’t come their way. i get that playing tight keeps you out of trouble, but sometimes it feels like people just pick on you if you never show any action. not to mention you barely build a stack unless you run super hot. i can see merit in being tight for some situations, especially if the table is wild and people are donating chips. but like, doesn’t being predictable just make it easy for everyone else to play against you? i’ve started mixing in a couple random hands just to see if it helps, even though it feels weird after all the bankroll management stuff i drilled into myself playing blackjack. anyone had long-term success sticking mostly to tight play, or is it just a meme for beginners? how do you know when to loosen up?
and card mcc caps hit blackjack way harder than crypto
personality gets too much credit... i've had blackjack dealers go flat the second bet placement glitches hit.
the dumb answer is they built that blackjack bonus around your account math, not your buddy’s. i had one with miserable game weighting that was basically a coaster. if he burns it on 6:5 blackjack, who’s eating that mismatch on their books, exactly?
good point
one thing i’ve learned from deep sessions is that losing streaks actually tighten my focus on the wheel, so the spins feel longer even when the timer is identical. blackjack’s the same way - after a tough hand, the shuffle or dealer’s move drags. it’s like your brain cranks up sensitivity when the stakes are personal. doesn’t help that vegas roulette animations aren’t winning any awards for speed. small but steady tweaks to self-awareness mid-session make it less jarring.
