does basic strategy really work or is it overhyped?

i keep hearing people hype up basic strategy like it's the holy grail for blackjack, but honestly, i see folks following the chart and still getting cleaned out all the time. i get that it reduces the house edge, but how much does that even matter if the cards aren't going your way? i've had dealers talk up sticking to the plan every hand but doesn't it end up feeling robotic and kinda misses the fun? anyone actually see long-term difference sticking to it, or is it just a comfort thing?

Following basic strategy matters for bankroll management more than chasing hot hands ever did, at least in my years grinding out live dealer games. I get my kicks by tracking my session swings, not forcing every hand to be entertainment.

Basic strategy cuts the house edge a bit like tracking mucked cards in poker, but it won't save you from cold streaks or make blackjack suddenly profitable long term. I stick to it in American blackjack, but still play Perfect Pairs on a hunch sometimes just for kicks.
