roulette table said french layout but no la partage rule showed anywhere

So I sat down at a table clearly marked as “French layout” with all the bets you’d expect, but I didn’t see any info about la partage. No signs, dealers didn’t mention it, and when I asked they just shrugged and pointed to the felt. Kind of made me wonder if I was missing something, or if the rule just doesn’t apply unless they specifically advertise it? I usually focus on blackjack so roulette rules aren’t my strong suit. Anyone here know if “French layout” always means la partage, or is that just the style of the table?
